Best Way to Give
The right kind of in-kind donations help fill gaps in the many resources needed to operate our services.
Financial donations help build our purchasing power – to assemble what we need, when we need it, and at bulk/wholesale rates.
FAQs*
Generally, no. Due to the administrative requirements involved in assessing, valuing, tracking, and receipting donated goods, we do not issue charitable tax receipts for most gifts-in-kind donations. In exceptional circumstances, we may be able to provide a receipt for significant, CRA compliant donations accompanied by appropriate documentation. If you believe your donation may qualify, please contact us before donating to discuss the details.
Charitable tax receipts are issued for monetary donations of $25 or more.
Generally, we do not offer a pick-up service. We may be able to make arrangements for significant donations under special circumstances. Please contact us.
We love community partnerships that regularly deliver items and supplies upon which we depend. For example, we are grateful to groups like 519 Pursuit for their annual sock drive and monthly delivery to Unity Project. Let’s connect if you and/or your group can commit to such an arrangement for a particular supply and we can those items off the list of things we chase!
We encourage you to support Life-Spin Free Store and/or the Mission Store, where participants can shop freely for the items they need and styles that suit and fit them. You may also find acceptance for your donations through 519 Pursuit.
We can accept prepared foods from commercial kitchens. Please call 519 433 8700 ext. 0 if you have prepared food to deliver. Otherwise, only the snack and coffee supplies listed can be accepted. Note: PC No Name Coffee is our favourite!
With limited storage space and a busy frontline environment, we must carefully manage what we receive, sort, store, track, and distribute. We understand that kits/bundled goods are very sweetly intentioned, but we hope you understand that we must deconstruct and sort into appropriate inventories on delivery. Welcoming multiple deliveries and accepting unneeded or seasonally inappropriate items can strain staff time and resources that are best directed toward supporting the people we serve. While gifts-in-kind help fill important gaps, they represent only a small portion of the supplies needed to operate our programs.
Financial donations provide the greatest flexibility, efficiency, and purchasing power. They allow us to purchase exactly what is needed, when it is needed, through reliable wholesale suppliers and established supply chains. This helps us meet needs efficiently, manage inventory responsibly, and ensure resources are available consistently throughout the year.
