Life Skills Program
“By doing the work with Jenny I gained the self-confidence to move out of Unity Project and begin rebuilding my own business with the support of my family. The service validated all my efforts and changed my life.”
Life Skills are embedded in the Unity Project at 2 levels: through its everyday operations and through a structured, measured and goal-oriented program.
Initiated in 2011, the Life Skills Program (LSP) targets skill development in key skill deficit areas, and improves residents’ abilities to meet their own and others basic needs for stability and independence. Individual goals are determined during the participant’s initial assessment with the LSP coordinator, and various tools are used to realize these unique goals. These tools may include:
- One-to-one weekly scheduled meetings to review set objectives
- Community involvement
- Relationship building
- Information on support groups
- Advocacy letters
The LSP also includes the following monthly-updated programs.
